My Take

My Favorite Bourbon.

There is not one single thing that makes Weller Antique 107 my favorite bourbon. It is the balance of everything. The caramel, vanilla, cherry, brown sugar, cinnamon, and oak all work together, with a rich mouthfeel that gives the bourbon plenty of character.

At 107 proof, it never drinks as hot as the number suggests. There is warmth and plenty of flavor, but for me it is smooth and enjoyable from the first sip. Nothing feels out of place or like it is fighting for attention.

I have had more expensive bottles, older bottles, and bottles that are harder to find. But when I think about the bourbon I simply enjoy drinking the most, OWA is still the one. It is just good, and everything about it works.

The Backstory

A Wheated Bourbon with Some Muscle.

W.L. Weller Antique 107 is part of Buffalo Trace Distillery’s Weller lineup. It is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey made with wheat in place of rye in the mash bill and bottled at 107 proof, or 53.5% alcohol by volume.

What keeps me coming back is how well that proof and wheated profile work together. My bottle gives me caramel, vanilla, cherry, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking spice, and oak, but no single note takes over. The result is rich, balanced, and surprisingly smooth for 107 proof.
