My Take

A Go-To for a Reason.

Eagle Rare 10 Year is one of my go-to bourbons. It has the sweetness I like from honey, toasted brown sugar, and toffee, balanced by enough baking spice to keep the pour interesting.

What stands out to me is how easy it drinks. It is smooth from start to finish and has enough character to drink neat without demanding too much attention.

For a 10-year bourbon, the age is surprisingly subtle to me. I do not get an overly oak-driven or heavy profile. The extra time in the barrel shows up more as polish and balance than as a dominant aged character.

The Backstory

Ten Years Without the Heavy Hand.

Buffalo Trace describes Eagle Rare Aged 10 Years as Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey aged for a full decade. The current expression is bottled at 90 proof, uses Mash Bill #1, and has been produced at Buffalo Trace Distillery since 1989.

Buffalo Trace's official tasting notes lean toward toffee, orange peel, honey, leather, oak, candied almonds, and cocoa. My bottle lands in a sweeter lane, with toffee, honey, orange, vanilla, toasted brown sugar, and baking spice taking the lead.
